Change is on the horizon in the United States. With COVID-19 creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, education professionals and families are grappling with a variety of decisions.
For Educators, health and safety are at the forefront while considering how to provide students with a quality educational experience. This experience will contrast the “Best Practices” instilled during training and professional development in order to implement CDC Guidelines to include hygiene protocols and social distancing.
Families are in the midst of deciding whether in person, virtual, blended. remote, or pod learning accommodates their needs. Without a national plan to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 across the United States, there is no “one size fits all.” Therefore, the choice parents make will be deeply personal and depend on the work status of parents, geographic location, recommendations of the local school district, and available resources.
These decisions are not easy as we live in precarious times. In addition, change is inevitable under the aforementioned circumstances. The ultimate question is where this change will lead to? In my opinion, this is the time to reimagine. How can we reimagine an equitable educational system? How can we develop policies ensuring the success of all children across America? How can we make learning more accessible to all students?
There is so much to be considered. However, what is in front of us is the 2020-2021 School Year and it will be a challenge. How are you going to navigate this uncharted territory?

"The reason why rivers and seas receive the homage of a hundred mountain streams is that they keep below them. Thus they are able to reign over all the mountain streams. So the sage, wishing to be above men, putteth himself below them; wishing to be before them, he putteth himself behind them. Thus, though his place be above men, they do not feel his weight; though his place be before them, they do not count it an injury.” -Lao Tzu
