Dynamic: “(of a process or system) characterized by constant change, activity, or progress.”

This week I reflected on the definition of dynamic and considered the most dynamic careers are often non-traditional and unexpected. These careers require shifts, pivots, and adjustments.

Last week, I stumbled upon a photo of myself with other recent college graduates and the leadership of a district. Through a national education non-profit, my cohort and I were focused on effecting change in the education space.

The photo brought back memories and I recalled my deep desire to make a change in the world with others. The overarching goal was to provide and ensure equitable, excellent, and quality education for all students across the nation. The photo was also a clear reminder that ones professional journey is not linear.

As a science major, my entry into education was far from traditional. My journey is marked with ups and downs, yet by a clear impact to students across the globe, in various schools, districts, and communities.

As I reflect on what is next, I am grateful for the non-traditional path, the work I continue to do, and am embracing the dynamic shifts to come. In these moments, I cling to the following quote by Sheryl Sandberg, “Careers are a jungle gym, not a ladder.”
